The city of London grew on the most unsuitable for it place - on a humid mosquito bog! But this place was an important for Romans point of Thames river crossing and soon a trade centre appeared here. After the Londinium was destroyed in 61 B.C., it was restored anew and turned to be the capital of Britain province. A wonderful town hall, splendid palace, fort and a temple have been built. No doubts it was a prosperous colony. Only in 200 A.D Romans erected defense walls around the city. The remains of this wall can be seen near the Museum of London.
Today London is a big international centre and occupies territory of 625 sq miles. This is a wonderful world, firstly observed by tourists from the plane and astonishing its guests with the beauty of numerous bridges.
London houses more than 7 millions of inhabitants, who live not in the nameless suburbs but in the former towns, which belonged to it.
